Bash Aparan (1974-1979) Heroic Battle Memorial is located in Aparan. The monument was erected in memory of the Battle of Bash-Aparan (1918), when brave Armenian soldiers managed to defeat the Turkish invaders. The monument seems to consist of three tabernacles, which merge into one whole. The first altar symbolizes the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide (1915), the second the memory of the brave heroes of the Bash-Aparan battle, and the third is dedicated to the soldiers who died in the Great Patriotic War. Looking back at the monument, you will see that the outline of the structure is similar to Mount Aragats, located near Aparan, symbolizing the stability, courage and strength of the locals. Not far from the memorial is the tomb of the legendary Armenian General Dro (Drastamat Kanayan). Under his command, the Armenians twice repulsed the regular attacks of the Turkish troops. Drastamat Kanayan, the leader of the Aparan heroic battle, was buried here in 2000
