There is a saying that this generation questions everything that the older generation blindly believed. Nowadays, people are less scared to ask questions and understand the reason of a certain activity. Personally, I agree with the statement, that it is more important for students to understand ideas and concepts than it is for them to learn fact. I will explain my point of view in the following essay.
To begin with, the information that has been explained and understood will be easier to memorize for longer. Especially for students, understanding ideas and concepts is important, as they will be using it for the rest of their career. For instance, I would like to bring up the simplest example. Learning facts is a way of self-education, which can not compare with the method of lecturer teaching students. Moreover, Teacher’s job would lose the whole idea of the profession if learning facts was as effective.
Second of all understanding concepts allows people to deliver their knowledge to others. The process of helping others to understand is a good reason to repeat the information and become more confident. To illustrate, I have had experiences of explaining to my friends the topics that I was supposed to be good at. These were the key moments of realization if I actually owned the skills or those were the illustrations of knowing facts. Overall, teaching is a great way of self-checking. In conclusion, I have tried to explore my agreement with the point made, that it is more important for students to understand ideas and concepts than it is for them to learn facts. It is appreciable to make the learning process slower but achieve the forever-staying information.
